Talented young soccer stars looking for funding

TWO Hanover Park cousins have a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to participate in a soccer tournament in Dubai in less than two months.

Nine-year-old Abdul Mu’izz Galant and his cousin, Abdu Dayaan Abrahams, are “soccer stars in the making”.

However, they need to raise the remainder of their funds. Their single parents could only pay the deposit for the trip so far. Abdul Muizz’s mother, Fayruz Francis, said fund-raising efforts have been slow and they need the funding before the deadline at the end of next month.

“The trip totals R25 000 for each player and so far we have only been able to pay the deposit of R2 500 for both.”

Francis said her son, a Grade 4 pupil at Turfhall Primary in Hanover Park, and his cousin are passionate about the sport and since the opportunity presented itself they have worked even harder.

Abdul plays for Fives in Lansdowne. Both cousins enjoy the sport and their parents want them to be able to break barriers beyond the community they grew up in.

“The boys both excel in soccer and have been awarded trophies for their skills and passion shown. They excel academically as well and both boys have progressed above average, especially in mathematics.”

The single mothers will host a variety show next week in hope of covering the costs.
