Zondo still waiting on Zuma guidelines
PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma is increasingly coming under pressure to urgently finalise and make public the terms of reference for the commission of inquiry into state capture.
The terms of reference for the commission have sparked a public debate, with some wanting it to be expanded beyond the scope ordered by former public protector Thuli Madonsela.
On Tuesday, the head of the judicial inquiry into state capture, Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, said he was still awaiting the terms of reference before starting his work following his appointment by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng.
Yesterday, Justice Minister Michael Masutha reportedly said the terms of reference were expected to be made available today.
Masutha confirmed receiving the signed proclamation from Zuma.
The justice and correctional services portfolio committee entered the fray yesterday, expressing its concern over the delay.
Committee chairperson Mathole Motshekga said Zuma should issue the terms of reference as a matter of urgency.
“It must be based on the remedial action of the public protector’s report.
“This matter cannot be delayed any further and a debate around the issue about who is responsible for issuing the terms of reference of the commission cannot be entertained,” Motshekga said.
