Rugby legends bring adrenalin and water awareness to Mother City

-

THE South African Rugby Legends Association (Sarla) will be kicking off 2018 in 10/10 style at the 10th edition of the Zando Cape Town 10s. This exciting social sport and lifestyle event will be held at Hamiltons Rugby Club in the Mother City today and tomorrow.

Coached by former Springbok captain Jean de Villiers, the Stor-Age VIP Invitational Legends Team will play in the 10s veterans division, which has, for the past 10 years, featured rugby greats such as André Vos, De Wet Barry, Louis Koen, Egon Seconds, Stefan Terblanche, Braam van Straaten, Hanyani Shimange, Breyton Paulse and AJ Venter, among others.

The tournament has also hosted an international legends team with rugby greats from around the world, including New Zealand’s Christian Cullen and Tana Umaga, Welshmen Chris Sheasby and Colin Charvis, Englishman Josh Lewsey, Aussie legend Tim Horan and late Kiwi legend Jonah Lomu, who visited the tournament three years ago.

This year, the Legends teams have joined forces to create an ultra-legend powerhouse Stor-Age VIP Invitational Legends team, with British Airways flying in a host of out-of-town legends for the event.

Our line-up is incredible, with international and local legends bringing their extensive experience to Cape Town soil: Chris Sheasby (Wales), Henno Mentz, Marco Wentzel, Conrad Jantjes, Norman Jordaan, Hottie Louw, Kabamba Floors, Pieter Dixon, Abi Ekoku and Jongi Nokwe are expected to shine. In an exciting return, former EFC middleweight champion and former UFC contender Garreth “Soldierboy” McLellan joins the line-up.

A stellar management line-up includes Krynauw Otto, De Wet Barry, former Bok captain Corne Krige and the legendary “Doring van Despatch” Danie Gerber.

Sarla chief executive Stefan Terblanche said: “It’s a great weekend of rugby camaraderie and exactly how rugby should be played. We look forward to participating again in this wonderful event and it’s certainly a highlight on our calendar.”

The SA Rugby Legends Association has been a proud affiliate of the Cape Town 10s since its establishment by Bob Skinstad, Ron Rutland and Robbie Fleck in 2008.

In keeping with this event’s reputation, the Stor-Age VIP Legends team has also given their support to the City of Cape Town’s #6BFORME water awareness campaign, supporting the drive to ensure all residents and visitors adhere to the new Level 6B water restrictions.

“As an event, the Zando Cape Town 10s will be operating off the municipal grid without taking any toll on the city’s water supply”, said Stor-Age VIP Legends coach Jean de Villiers.

“We are always on the lookout for proactive ways to get involved with great initiatives that make a difference, and the Stor-Age VIP Legends are committed to helping drive this message home.”

Stor-Age is co-ordinating a national bottled water drop-off at all Stor-Age outlets nationwide, to be delivered to Cape Town in the coming months. Visit visit: www.stor-age.co.za
