“BE CAREFUL. Watch out. No. We caution our daughters more than we do our sons. What message does this set out to a little girl... that bravery is not for me?”

These were the powerful words said by High Commissioner for India to South Africa and Lesotho, Ruchira Kamboj, at the opening of the #INSVTarini Photo Exhibition at the Royal Cape Yacht Club on Monday.

The exhibit reflects the bravery, teamwork and resilience of each of the six Indian Navy all-women sailors who are currently in Cape Town on the final leg of their historic circumnavigation of the globe.

The boat is skippered by Lieutenant-Commander Vartika Joshi and crew members Lieutenant-Commander Pratibha Jamwal, Lieutenant Aishwarya Boddapati, Lieutenant Patarapalli Swathi, Lieutenant Vijaya Devi and Lieutenant Payal Gupta.

They docked in Cape Town on Friday and were received Kamboj, Mayor Patricia de Lille, SA Navy Rear Admiral (JG) EM Masanabo, the Consul-General of India in Cape Town Abhishek Shukla, and defence adviser of the High Commission of India Captain Manjit M Thomas.

The Indian Navy’s second ocean-going sailboat embarked on the first Indian all-women circumnavigation of the globe on September 10, 2017 from Goa, and will berth in Cape Town until March 14.
