Making a difference

-

THE ARTICLE, “Making an impact on African circus” (Cape Times, March 14), refers.

I am writing to you as an extremely proud trustee of Zip Zap Circus.

I thought it would be interesting for the readers to know that Zip Zap Circus has for over 20 years been giving children, mostly previously disadvantaged, an opportunity to learn vital life skills and to create vibrant community spirit.

The training for these young people sets the groundwork for productive future members of the South African community.

Many of the graduates from the circus testify to how the circus had become their family, and the bedrock of their future formation.

And, with reference to “Gift of the Givers brings water relief to communities on the Berg River” (Cape Times, March 14): I had the pleasure and great opportunity to meet and speak with the founder of Gift of the Givers, Mr Imtiaz Sooliman.

This gentleman is a gem and is truly one of the heroes of South Africa. Many years ago, Mr Sooliman came forward to offer me help with the release of a medical doctor in Abu Dhabi.

I was enthralled when I heard him address the audience at the FW de Klerk Foundation where Mr Sooliman received the highest honour award from the foundation.

Great strength to Imtiaz Sooliman and the many great causes he gets involved in! Michael Bagraim Highlands Estate
