Sekunjalo Investment Holdings Executive Chairman Dr Iqbal Survé in conversation with President Cyril Ramaphosa at the 19th Cape Town International Jazz Festival at the CTICC on Saturday night, with Zizi Kodwa, head of Monitoring and Evaluation in the Office of the President.
THE Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF) drew thousands of music lovers and celebrities at the weekend who enjoyed world-class entertainment.
In its 19th year, the offering encompassed the full scale of the jazz genre as the line-up showcased diverse cultures and musical styles to reveal the complexity of the music, to inspire, uplift and energise.
President Cyril Ramaphosa, former president Jacob Zuma, and Anglican Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu were among the 37 000 people at the event held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on Friday and Saturday.
Organisers of the event had in-depth planning meetings regarding water use, and comprehensive and responsible water use plans were in place.
The plans included using bottled water for cooking and food preparation, having hand sanitisers in bathrooms, and using non-potable water for all clean-up operations.
The festival is the flagship event for prominent events management and production company espAfrika, which has staged and produced several world-renowned events.
Affectionately referred to as “Africa’s Grandest Gathering”, the festival is the largest music event in sub-Saharan Africa, and is famous for its star-studded line-up of local and international artists.
Each year it boasts five stages with more than 40 artists performing over two nights.
One of this year’s highlights was The Boy’s Doin’ It,a musical tribute to the legendary Bra Hugh Masekela.
The Boy’s Doin’ It was performed by Masekela’s five-member band of the past 10 years, including singer Sibongile Khumalo and a two-piece brass section.
The artist line-up also included Alistair Izobell, Amanda Black, Claire Phillips and visiting UK hit sensation Corinne Bailey Rae, Billy Monama: GrazRoots Project, Black Motion, Incognito, and the Sekunjalo Edujazz Band.
