Career expo help for pupils
THE two-day National High School Career Expo, which boasted over 25 000 visitors, has disbursed bursaries worth R100 000 to pupils from around the city, and put up about R1 million in prizes for schools to win.
The event was held on Friday and Saturday at Cavendish Square in Claremont.
The expo’s marketing manager, Henry Seaward, said the expo was designed to provide primary and middle school pupils with opportunities and guidance to choose high schools, select subjects, and assist and equip young people with the necessary tools to succeed in high school, tertiary education and beyond.
“The High School Career Expo targets thousands of young individuals from all walks of life, as well as their parents, education institutions, private sector businesses, and even government officials,” Seaward said.
Pupils and their parents could learn about public and private high schools and their special programmes, extracurricular activities and admissions criteria, he added.
“You can find out which high school is most suitable for your child’s future. Prospective students will be able to meet with representatives from a wide range of universities, technikons, colleges and other tertiary institutions to gain insight and career advice from leading field specialists.”
