Accolade for UWC
THIS letter serves to endorse and support both Cheryl Africa and Blackmur’s unequivocal support for the University of the Western Cape.
As a current – even though “ancient” PhD – student, I here, with specific reference to the faculty of theology, the administration department, and the librarian services, over my years of enrolment at UWC, found the said institution’s standards to reflect a level comparative to the globe’s most renowned post-tertiary institutions.
It hosts a number of internationally-acclaimed theologians whose publications and journal-related articles are academically world-class!
Its admin department, unlike other institutions of which I have first-hand-student experience, is one within which the student comes first!
The librarians and supporting staff – here including the chief librarian – go the proverbial extra many miles to source research material from across the global academic network.
In conclusion: the criteria employed by the “raters” of international post-tertiary institutions reek of academic snobbery. I close with the following:
“How does one know that somebody graduated through Cambridge, Harvard, Stellenbosch, UCT or Oxford?
Said graduate tells you so! André Potgieter Newlands
