Visible policing vehicle in collision

THE Grassy Park community policing forum (CPF) has expressed deep concern after a visible policing vehicle was taken off the streets following an accident outside the area.

This follows an accident which occurred along Spine Road last week, where a police vehicle and government vehicle collided.

A culpable homicide case had since been opened after a woman died in the crash said police spokesperson, Noloyiso Rwexana.

“A culpable homicide case has been opened for investigation after an accident, where a police vehicle and another government vehicle were involved.

“A 53-year-old woman, who was the passenger in the other vehicle, was fatally injured while the drivers of both vehicles were injured and transported to hospital for medical treatment,” Rwexana said.

Grassy Park CPF spokesperson Philip Bam said they were aggrieved by the incident as the community had made pleas for more visible policing vans to be brought to the area.

“The Grassy Park CPF has been informed that a police vehicle from the Grassy Park police station was involved in a crash last week, while allegedly out of the Grassy Park police area.

“We understand from media enquiries that there was a fatality.

“The CPF extends its condolences to the loved ones of the deceased and commiserate with those who were injured in the crash,” he said.

Bam said they appealed to the station management to ensure that the movement of visible policing vans was controlled.

“Resources are limited and, at best, the area is served by two patrol vehicles per shift.

“A patrol vehicle out of its area exacerbates the service delivery problem,” he said.
