Duduzane, Guptas, Myeni summonsed

THE Guptas, former SAA chairperson Dudu Myeni and Duduzane Zuma, son of former president Jacob Zuma, face arrest if they fail to respond to summonses issued by Parliament.

The warning came after the portfolio committee on public enterprises said yesterday it would no longer tolerate the stalling by the three.

Acting chairperson of the committee Zukiswa Rantho said they decided in their closed meeting that the summons will be served on Myeni, the Guptas and Zuma at their respective addresses.

The three had cited different reasons for not being served with summonses to appear before the inquiry into state capture.

“The process is going to be that the summonses are already out, but they did not give their addresses. The legal and administration team of the committee will do that work.

“We suggested in the closed meeting if they do not come to the committee after the summons, we will give over (stet) to the police and what they must do. They must issue warrants of arrest,” said Rantho.

Deputy Minister of International Relations, Luwellyn Landers also faced questions in the National Council of Provinces from the DA and EFF to extradite the Guptas.

Leon Magwebu, of the DA, asked since it was known Ajay Gupta was a fugitive from justice and the other two Guptas were also wanted, would the South African embassy in the UAE not arrest them.

The DA and EFF said the Department of International Relations must work with other departments, including justice, to extradite the Guptas.

The DA’s Natasha Mazzone said in the meeting it was resolved that Parliament would go to court to force the appearance of Myeni, Zuma and the Guptas before the inquiry.

Steve Swart, of the ACDP, said: “We know the Guptas are appearing in the Indian tax court. The sheriff can serve the summons at their last known address, which is Saxonwold.”

Narend Singh, of the IFP, also backed calls for the issuing of the summonses to the three.
