Reus hopes he has sent a clear signal for future

-

MARCO’S STAYING! “We’re very happy to announce that Marco Reus has signed a contract extension,” said Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke following the successful completion of talks with the star, who last week penned a new deal keeping him at the club until June 2023. Reus’ previous contract was set to expire in 2019.

The decision by the 28-yearold who has been coveted by a number of top teams – to pledge himself to his club comes earlier than anticipated and will allow the Black and Yellows to plan for the future.

“I’ve been wearing the Borussia Dortmund shirt since 2012. I’m happy and proud to announce that I will continue to wear it. Dortmund is my home, BVB is my club! As a young boy, I always used to dream of pulling on the black and yellow jersey and playing for this club. I signed based on profound conviction and I hope this sends a clear signal for the future,” said Reus. “Renewing my commitment to the club today is also a way of thanking the fantastic fans, who have always stood by me. The fact that BVB, led by Hans-Joachim Watzke and Michael Zorc, have always supported me, even in the not-so-easy times, was an additional positive factor in my decision-making.”

Last year’s German Cup final saw Reus win his first piece of silverware with the club, but he tore his cruciate ligament in that match and only made his comeback four weeks ago. Since then, he has already notched three goals and two assists.

“Marco would improve any team,” said sporting director Michael Zorc. “He’s a man for the important moments and, above all, the important goals. He’s the cornerstone of our attack and, furthermore, one of the defining faces at our club.”
