Praise for the police

-

THE Grassy Park Community Policing Forum congratulates the Grassy Park police on speedy action to apprehend crime suspects last Friday, April 20.

A trolley pusher was found with a 9mm pistol with live ammunition in Fairways thanks to the alert Neighbourhood Watch and police. The suspect is allegedly a member of the Junky Funkie Kids gang in Parkwood Estate. Later, police arrested a young man attempting to rob a 35-year-old woman of her mobile phone in Victoria Road, Grassy Park.

Apparently, this youngster is also a gang member who steals to feed his drug habit. He uses Mandrax which cost him R35 a tablet. One shudders to think what harm could have befallen this woman if the police had not acted swiftly. These arrests follow interaction between the community and the police. For a long time now, the CPF has been asking for guns to be taken off our streets, and we are pleased that the police are following through.

The CPF will be embarking on a community awareness programme over the next few weeks to build a better relationship between community and police.

We appreciate that there are community members who will come forward with information on crime and locations of guns in the area. The community is encouraged to contact the CPF confidentially with information on which the police will act.

We are determined to join hands with the community and police to rid our suburbs of gangsterism and crime. Our programmes are designed to change the mindsets of our children and to debunk the glorification of gangsters as role models. Philip Bam PRO: Grassy Park CPF
