Gigaba walks the talk

-

HATS off to Malusi Gigaba for making a visit to see personally the operations at Home Affairs in Umgeni Road, Durban.

This is precisely what a good minister/manager is all about.

It’s called management by walking around.

The idea is seeing for yourself, on a random visit, and then fixing and monitoring earlier queries with certain critical key issues.

That is, number of staff versus number of clients attended to ratio, average queueing times.

This is what will change you from a mediocre office-bearer (like many before and some of your colleagues) to a world-class minister who is handson and takes no “c **** y” stories from lazy officials literally trying to cover their behinds.

Umgeni Road is a disaster, and a family member had to get a passport from a branch in the North West where the turnaround times were better.

Twice we were too late at the Umgeni Road branch, and this was before lunchtime.

In fact, there are stories that you can “buy” your seat in advance.

So maybe the “delays” are believed to be part of a racket.

Durban Home Affairs really needs a shake-up, and with the minister’s regular interventions, let’s hope we can see some improvements.

Well done and keep up your visits and follow-ups. Muhammad Omar Durban North
