Calling traffic cops

-

CAPE Town desperately needs an army of traffic police in two areas. 1. Sea Point: Taxi drivers suddenly do a U-turn, irrespective of oncoming traffic from both sides.

Drivers ignore red traffic lights, shooting through the intersections.

I have nearly been knocked over at the pedestrian crossing on the corner of St John’s and Main roads because cars shoot through the red traffic light.

I and many other residents of Sea Point are old, disabled and cannot cross the road quickly. 2 City: Mainly taxis drivers ignore the red lights and shoot through.

At night, cars turn from Adderley Street into Darling Street, ignoring the no-turn sign.

Cars parked outside the chicken shop, in Adderley Street, block the left lane while the drivers buy chicken and chips.

I have lived in Sea Point for 27 years and have seldom seen traffic police, which Sea Point desperately needs.

I once saw a traffic cop on a motorbike. I asked him if I could touch him because he was a rarity in Sea Point.

I have travelled to many cities overseas – London, New York, Los Angeles, Rome, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Everywhere I have been, there are many traffic police checking on the traffic. Try to break the traffic laws in Los Angeles, Tel Aviv or Jerusalem, you will end up with a traffic fine.

Sir, Cape Town desperately needs traffic police patrolling on motorbikes as well as watching drivers breaking every law.
