Help the homeless

- Markus Elkana Brajtman Sea Point

WITH the cold and rainy season approaching, I repeat what I have written about many times.

Please give shelter to the unfortunate, unemployed people who sleep outside, covered in plastic sheets.

They have no toilet facilities, nor anywhere to wash.

There are so many unused buildings in Cape Town.

The old nurse’s home at the old Somerset hospital is one.

What about the old Tafelberg school building in Main Road, Sea Point?

They are human beings who have never had the same opportunity as we who live in houses/flats, and have electricity, warmth, a kitchen to make food and a toilet facilities.

I appeal to the authorities to act on this now.

Get those people off the streets and give them shelter.

Pay some people money to see to the cleanliness of those buildings, especially the bathrooms. What about food? There is so much food that we do not eat. Let’s have a drop-off place to help those people to have food, instead of having them scratching in the bins for a morsel.

I am sure the restaurants throw away much of the uneaten food.

Maybe if more citizens in Cape Town would write to the Cape Times and make appeals to help those people, we may get some results.
