- Mehboob Bawa

THE Mother City will host sensational Bollywood singer Neha Kakkar at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on Sunday, July 15, at 7pm.

The concert will be staged by local impresario Ebrahim Kaskar of Shalimar Promotions in association with Independent Media.

Kakkar, who hails from Delhi and who has been singing since the age of 4, started her professional musical journey as a contestant in the 2006 Indian Idols series.

Despite her young age (she turned 30 on June 6) Kakkar is in demand as a guest on many Indian television music shows, and is a recurring judge on the Sa Re Ga Ma Lil Champs music contest.

More recently, many of her songs have garnered hundreds of millions of hits on YouTube, like Kala Chashma from Baar Baar Dekho with 465 million plus views, Mile Ho Tumko has 435 million plus views, Cheez Badi with 351 million plus views and Phi Bhi Tumko Chahunga with 335 million plus views.

“We have selected the Cape Town International Convention Centre Auditorium, because audiences can be seated in comfort, and acoustically it offers the best audio experience in a venue of this size.

‘‘We have kept ticket prices in an affordable price range to allow Cape Town fans of Bollywood music to have access to an artiste of this calibre,” Kaskar said.

“The Neha Kakkar Concert features an artiste at the top of her game.

‘‘Kakkar’s versatility can be seen in her repertoire of songs in various genres including pop, Sufi and ballads, appealing to a wide variety of audiences.”
