Acsa lands three on-time performance stars

-

THREE of the country’s airports have received fourstar rankings for their punctuality.

The rankings were awarded by global flight information provider OAG, which accredits top airlines and airports around the world for superior punctuality performance.

Cape Town International Airport scored 84.4%, while O R Tambo International Airport received 82.9% and King Shaka International Airport was awarded 84.8% for their superior punctuality.

The On-Time Performance star ratings are measured across a 12-month period.

To achieve an On-Time Performance star rating, the world’s airlines and airports must have a minimum of 600 operations a month and the global flight information provider must receive flight status information for no less than 80% of scheduled flights within the 12-month period.

Airport Company SA (Acsa) chief executive Fundi Sithebe said the four-star ranking for the three airports was a major boost and reflected the company’s continued efforts to provide the best experience in the areas that matter most to the users.

“Operating large airports is a complex business that involves co-ordination and integration among thousands of people who provide the service required for aircraft to be able to land and take off at the scheduled time.

“When running an airport, one relatively small problem in one area has the potential to create an knock-on effect across the system.

“This is why it is key for management of airports to focus closely not only on the major elements of delivering on time performance, but also on things that are perceived to be trivial,” said Sithebe.

She said Acsa endeavours to become part of the airport elite, the top 10% that have the best on-time performance in the world.

“By running airports efficiently and developing them innovatively this will be archived.

“We know that it is possible to get to the top, and this is what motivates us,” said Sithebe. – Staff Writer
