Uncaring clinic

- Sincerely yours Councillor Ernest Theron Mitchell’s Plain

DEAR Mayor Patricia de Lille

We, the African National Congress (ANC), are writing to inform you of a situation that we encountered at the clinic in Tafelsig last week. We visited the clinic after receiving complaints from local residents. On arrival at the clinic we discovered the following:

People are made to queue outside while doors remain closed. No protection from rain or sun. People are forced to stand for long periods (including mothers with children in their arms).

Elderly and physically challenged are forced to stand.

The local residents have asked the ANC to approach the City of Cape Town as well as the local Subcouncil 12 on their behalf to provide them with a shelter over the area where they are forced to queue daily.

Furthermore, to alleviate the effects of the lengthy process, benches should be installed for seating.

The service at the clinic is questionable and staff are unable to communicate effectively. The slow service delivery results in people often leaving the clinic without receiving any assistance, having to return the next day. Children and the elderly receive no preferential treatment when they are in dire need. There is also no separation between TB patients and other patients.

The ANC is therefore demanding on behalf of the people that the City go the following:

Extend the current roof as far as the perimeter fence.

Provide seating (benches) for people queueing outside

We expect a reply from the City within seven days, failing which, the ANC will be forced to take matters into its own hands on behalf of the people.
