Returning to the fold

-

AS FAR as the PAC is concerned, we have a vacant seat since we took a collective decision to expel Luthando Mbinda, who never ever challenged such a decision.

The Pan Africanist Congress of Azania took a resolution not to object to its former leader, Alton Mphethi, who was also deployed in the National Assembly (NA) after the general elections of 2014, before replacing him with the expelled Mbinda.

The national executive committee (NEC), the highest decision making body in between conferences, resolved today not to object to Cadre Alton Mphethi’s court bid to be reinstated as MP, we are going to be passive in that court application. The NEC took a firm decision not to spend more time on litigation as we find it necessary to prepare for the 2019 general polls.

As such, we will not object to Cde Mphethi’s demands.

We are searching for stability because we cannot approach elections limping as we always do, we want to improve our performance hence we are trying everything possible not to be found in court rooms.

Mr Alton Mphethi is the only former/expelled leader who always respected and observed the rule of law, both within the parameters of the party as well as approaching external arbiters. We respect Mr Mphethi because he is the only expelled leader who never associated with unconstitutional activities led by expelled individuals and, as such, he must be rewarded for having respected the constitution of the party.

The move to reinstate Cde Mphethi as both a member in good standing of the party, as well as a Member of Parliament, should be seen as a good gesture to amend broken relations. We will do everything possible to reach out to all those who were wronged, provided that they are willing to accept policies, leadership and the constitution of the PAC. We are glad to welcome back Cde Alton Mphethi. Kenneth Mokgatlhe PAC National Spokesperson
