PAC mourns sad passing of Mama Veronica Sobukwe
THE PAC received the sad news of the passing of mama, gogo, koko Veronica Zodwa Sobukwe, the wife of the PAC’s first president Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe.
We received the news at around 2am yesterday that she had passed on in her home in Graaff-Reinett after being discharged from hospital yesterday.
The Mother of Azania was a very humble, resistant and loving woman we came to know many decades ago.
This happened in a special month for women; women should emulate and embody the Mother of Azania.
She was not a drama queen, but a responsible mother who understood her cause until the end.
We had already acknowledged the award or recognition she got from the democratic state, but we emphasise that the timing was all wrong because they had forgotten her for too long; there was an attempt to mute her and her colossal contribution to the liberation movement, as well as the democratic dispensation.
Our leadership will inform the government formally about this sad news and we will also communicate with the mourning Sobukwe family, so that we can communicate other arrangements with both the media, as well as our members.
We believe that from God we come, to do specific work in the name of God the merciful, God the compassionate; when we have done what we where sent to do we shall return to God where we come from.
Let us borrow the words of wisdom from our founding father Sobukwe, who said in our most difficult times: “We are the tools of history, if we go to history will find other tools to continue where we left.”
Mama Veronica has done what she come to do, she has returned to God where she come from, may her journey back home be showered with blessings and her soul find peace with God.
To the Sobukwe family, we wish to express our heartfelt condolences to the children and the grandchildren on the passing of their mother and grandmother.
When the sun rises we shall remember her and her husband.
When the sun set we shall remember them.
From God we come and unto God we shall return.
