The society aims to educate the public on the value of plants

THE Calitzdorp Succulent Festival (Vetplantfees), showcasing many beautiful and rare succulents from South Africa and all over the world, will take place from September 22 to 24.

The festival is hosted by the Calitzdorp Succulent Society, a non-profit organisation that aims to assist with the conservation of succulents in the Klein Karoo through public education and promotion.

Last year’s inaugural event was a great success.

This year, succulent plant lovers will be able to take part in a large variety of activities over the weekend.

Visitors will see indigenous and rare succulents in their natural habitat, be able to buy specimens not available in nurseries and get advice on how to propagate, grow and care for succulents.

Organisers say the society aims to educate the public with regards to the value of succulent plants in the local environment, by means of exhibitions, garden tours and demonstration gardens and a range of activities that include talks, hands-on classes by local experts and the dissemination of information through the internet and social media.

The festival is free to the public.

Information about the festival will be made available on the website of the Calitzdorp Succulent Society at www.vetplant.co.za.
