A lively day with the legends
RUGBY legends will come together at the Drakensberg town of Winterton for a lively afternoon of fun and friendship.
The South African Rugby Legends Association (Sarla) will take on the Drakensberg Rugby Club Legends Team in what promises to be a fun and exhilarating occasion on September 15.
This clash was last held in 2014 and has been both well attended and supported since. It has become an important fund-raiser for the local club.
The first match between the Natal Legends and the Drakensberg Legends took place in 2002. Following a break, the match was rekindled in 2014.
Sarla chief executive Stefan Terblanche said: “All legends participating in the Drakensberg game are really looking forward to the weekend’s events. It’s a great opportunity to spend valuable time together, and past matches have always proved extremely rewarding. Sarla is always grateful for the legends’ time, energy and, of course, for their amazing commitment to giving back by passing on their valuable knowledge to the next generation of rugby talent.”
Adding to the spectacle is news that distinguished coach Ian McIntosh will be guiding the Sarla squad at this year’s event. The former Springbok and Natal Sharks coach will celebrate his 80th birthday on September24.
The action kicks off at 3pm at the Winterton Country Club grounds of the Drakensberg Rugby Club.
