SILENT AUCTION FOR SUNFLOWER CENTRE

- | STAFF WRITER

A silent art auction in aid of the Sunflower Learning Centre and the Children’s Art Centre will be held in Zonnebloem tomorrow.

The Sunflower Learning Centre – which is a safe, inspiring children’s library – is located on the Zonnebloem Estate, just some metres away is the historic children’s art Centre in the heart of District Six.

The event features artists and illustrators such as Lein Botha, Katie Lund, Katharien de Villiers, Zapiro, Gary Frier, Senzo Shabangu, Paul Carstens, Omar Badsha, Anja Stoeckigt and many more, according to Nonikiwe Mashologu Literacy Project Director at the Otto Foundation Trust and runs the literacy projects at the Sunflower Learning Centre.

She said the auction would have a wide variety of works to cater for any budget and anyone who loved and was passionate about literacy in SA was welcome to join and support.

“We are working to get funding for the running costs of the library and contribute to the art centre as well.

‘‘We like the idea that illustrations and artists are linked in some way to the library and the art Centre… and they have a story to tell,” she said.

The event starts at 6.30pm at the Sunflower Learning Centre.
