BLAME BELONGS AT DOOR OF THE ANC

- COLIN BURGER | Durban

MINISTER of Communications Nomvula Mokonyane blames “the legacy of apartheid and colonialism” for the level of violent crime in this country (The Mercury, September 25).

She, like her ANC counterparts, simply cannot admit that the level of crime in South Africa is the highest it’s ever been and has been on a steady increase ever since 1994.

Poverty leads to crime, an accepted fact internationally. This country is at its lowest ebb financially and economically since democracy. Unemployment is at an all-time high.

The report the minister refers to by the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation was compiled nine years ago, almost the same time as one Mr Jacob Zuma came into power. We have all witnessed the raping and looting of this country’s finances by the former ANC president. The evidence being revealed by those who have appeared in front of the State Capture Commission clearly shows that the ANC hierarchy were all well aware of the crimes being committed by their president, but said not a word.

Teachers were never ever murdered by their students before 1994. South Africa was a First World country before the ANC brought about the degrading actions of the world’s most recognised rating agencies.

Yes, Mrs Mokonyane, we all agree that apartheid was horrendous and unjust – but it is time after 25 years of ANC rule that you lay the situation we find ourselves in at the doors of your own political party.
