BENNI McCarthy and his young Cape Town FC squad have given Capetonians a reason to smile.

Their hard-fought victory over SuperSport United saw them bringing home the MNT 8 trophy in the Mother City – much to the joy of many left heartbroken when the Cape side lost to the same club in the final of the same competition in Durban last year.

This victory came as Capetonians and people from around the province celebrated Western Province’s victory over their rivals, the Sharks, at Newlands stadium on Saturday.

We feature these stories in today’s edition, including the Springbok’s win over their rival Aussies in Nelson Mandela Bay. This was also a special occasion as Captain Siya Kolisi played in his hometown in Port Elizabeth.

While reporting on these achievements, Metrorail has once again suffered a major setback after three more trains caught fire at the weekend.

This means thousands of commuters using the affected lines will experience 60-minute delays.

The issue of auctioning a piece of prime land, which activists said resulted in the city losing millions of rand, took a twist with mayor Patricia De Lille requesting that a forensic probe be established. This is a story this publication carried when activists fingered Ian Neilson to be partly to blame for the loss of R140 million of public money due to an alleged botched auction of prime land on the foreshore.
