I might vote for ANC to bolster Ramaphosa

- DAVE BURGER | Cape Town

AFTER the last war the National Party took power from the United Party and immediately embarked upon a policy of cadre deployment.

Just like the ANC after 1994. Afrikaners (who had been so terribly abused by the British who only a few years before had burnt their farms, killed their cattle and thrown their women and children into concentration camps where many died under inhumane circumstances) were put in charge of State Owned Enterprises.

Many of them would have been suited to black boots and swastikas.

Nonetheless they proved competent in organising themselves in setting up an excellent infrastructure which made this one of the most advanced countries on the African continent.

Unfortunately they committed the crime of apartheid to give fruit to their endeavours. When the ANC came into power they immediately embarked upon the same policy of cadre deployment, but stupidly opted for blind affirmative action in terms of which incompetent political figures were put in charge of organisations that they had absolutely no idea of managing.

So we ended up with a mess everywhere. The bankrupt SABC, Eskom, SAA, Sars, Transnet, municipalities et al are all testament to the folly of putting the wrong people in charge.

So we have had internationally embarrassing looting and plundering of the worst kind. Hopefully this is now at an end,

In my time I have voted for the National Party, the Progressive Party and the DA, but now find myself in the incredible position of thinking about voting for the ANC.

Because unless Ramaphosa gets a comfortable mandate to rule this country, we are going to be in an ongoing mess.

What an amazing turnaround!
