MSL and cricket supporters batting for future stars

THE Mzansi Super League has unveiled the Future Stars Store at SuperSport Park Centurion, an initiative created to benefit deserving young cricketers through the donation of cricket kit.

The initiative calls on cricket fans to bring any unused cricket gear to the Tshwane Spartans’ home stadium to be donated to this cause. The kit will then be used in a pop-up shop installation, giving underprivileged cricketers the chance to select gear and be fitted by Mzansi Super League players.

During the league, Centurion will have a donation point which will be a fixture throughout the tournament.

Further, each Mzansi Super League team will host an amnesty event during a league fixture, challenging fans to donate gear in exchange for a limited-edition team supporter’s jersey.

Cricket South Africa chief executive Thabang Moroe said: “The Mzansi Super League is a uniquely South African product. We thus wanted to utilise the inaugural edition of the league to not only thrill and entertain, but to uplift our communities. “What better starting point than using the event to benefit deserving young cricketers who aspire to follow in the footsteps of the Mzansi Super League stars.

I challenge all Tshwane fans to visit your local stadium and donate cricket kit for this cause. Whether new or used, it will certainly be put to great use and be highly appreciated.”

While fans can donate gear at SuperSport Park Centurion at any stage during the tournament, they will be able to exchange their new or unused bat, ball, pads, shirts, gloves, helmets, boots and any other usable piece of cricket kit for a limited-edition team fan shirt at the game between Tshwane Spartans and Durban Heat on December 12 at SuperSport Park Centurion.

“We have a vast talent pool of young cricketers who are a part of Cricket South Africa’s community hubs and RPC programmes who would benefit hugely from the donation of this kit – not only in the context of gaining equipment which is fit for use, but to be inspired to pursue their dreams through their Mzansi Super League heroes at the Future Stars Store.

“The donation of this kit will be a small step towards giving cricketers who may not have had the opportunity, a leg up in achieving their dreams,” added David Mokopanele, Cricket South Africa head of development.
