THE Hawks’ Narcotics Enforcement Bureau has arrested three more suspects in connection with a multimillion-rand drug bust at a storage facility in Somerset West earlier this month.

Hawks spokesperson Philani Nkwalase said the three suspects, Russel Stanton Jonathan, 53, Mark Overmeyer, 51, and Zaynisa Alfoz, 45, were apprehended in various parts of Cape Town for their alleged involvement with the drugs seized at the storage facility.

“Jonathan was arrested on Monday at his residence in Hanover Park for his alleged involvement, while Alfoz was apprehended last week on Tuesday,” Nkwalase said.

“Overmeyer was traced and arrested last week on Wednesday, with the assistance of the Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit.”

All three suspects appeared in the Somerset West Magistrate’s Court.

Jonathan, Alfoz and Overmeyer were remanded in custody and would, together with Mogamat Rafiek Hayners, 24, arrested earlier in connection with the drug bust, apply for bail in the Somerset West Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Nkwalase said.

Two weeks ago, Hayners was arrested during an operation conducted by the Hawks, its Narcotics Enforcement Bureau and the Crime Intelligence Division.

Hayners was arrested at the storage facility, where the drugs were allegedly concealed.

The drugs that were seized included heroin, tik and mandrax.

Nkwalase said the drugs had a street value of R8.9 million.
