20 artists to spruce up Salt River with murals
LOCAL non-profit organisation BazArt has invited 20 South African and international artists to be part of a major artistic facelift in Salt River.
The artists, comprising nine from South Africa and 11 from Europe and North and South America, will paint murals on the theme of “We Need Nature”.
Their work will form part of the second International Public Art Festival (IPAF) organised by Baz-Art with the City, IPAF Mexico and Canada from February 10 to 19.
Local muralists will be Care OneLove; South Africanist; Zesta; Page 33; MARS; Sonny; Jared Aufrichtig; Serge One; and Keith Vlahakis.
Foreign muralists will comprise Belgians ROA; Spear and Linus Haertjens; Salla Ikonen from Finland; Damien Gillot of France; Mariana Palomina of Spain; Sweden’s Julia Rio; Argentina’s Lucas Aoki; Canada’s Ruben Carrasco; and Christina Navarette from Mexico.
Haertjens said: “What motivated me to take part was IPAF’s commitment to the community in Salt River and to the Capetonian art scene in general.
“I am very grateful to have been invited to be part of this edition of IPAF, especially as this year’s theme resonates deeply with the current water issues Capetonians are faced with.”
South African artist MARS said: “It’s a great project showcasing some amazing local and international talent. The theme is an important one, more so now than ever.”
Argentinian artist Lucas Aoki said: “I have never been to Africa.
“I have always been and still am very curious about the culture and the city of Cape Town.
“I’ve always heard unique place.
