MSF’s tough year recorded in pictures

Patients all have their own unique story to tell

- STAFF WRITER

DOCTORS Without Borders’ compelling 2018 pictures-of-the-year compilation looks back on a year in which the organisation provided medical care to the innocent victims of war and catastrophe across the globe.

The non-profit organisation stressed that it had been a tough year for everyone, especially in the more than 70 countries in which it works, and where its teams continued to provide life-saving and life-changing medical care.

Doctors Without Borders said that photojournalists and staff photographers working alongside its teams, had borne witness to and had captured the work of its dedicated teams, and the stories of the individuals and communities they help.

“Today we share with you compelling 2018 end-of-year wrap-up high resolution photos, publications and channels. The 2018 pictures of the year collection looks back on a year of providing medical care in extreme conditions and contexts across the globe.

“Whether caught in or fleeing conflict and violence, affected by disease or epidemics, or hit by natural disasters, Doctors Without Borders’ patients each have their own unique story to tell.

“Stories of suffering and vulnerability, bravery and resilience. These pictures of the year (taken between November 2017 and December 2018) showcase a select few,” said the organisation.

Some of the stories to look out for include: the plight of Rohingya refugees who have fled Myanmar to Bangladesh due to extreme violence; the struggles faced by many people crossing the Mediterranean Sea in their quest to reach Europe for better lives and future; and Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
