West End Jazz Fest promises top talent

CLUB West End in Rylands, Athlone, is expected to bring on 2019 with a bang with the West End Jazz Festival on Sunday.

Some of Cape Town’s best musicians and an exciting international act from Trinidad and Tobago will make sure that it will be an evening to remember, the club said.

Led by musical genius Camillo Lombard, classy jazz band Top Dog SA comprise some of the most talented musicians in the country and they never disappoint when they are on stage.

The evergreen Richard Ceasar is a brilliant vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, while Donveno Prins is well known for the saxy vibes that he dishes up on his saxophone.

Trinidad and Tobago artist Choko, who is quickly winning over local music fans with his Caribbean beats and energetic live performances, will be officially introduced to Cape Town music lovers on the night.

Other acts include powerful vocalist Vuvu Khumalo and the exciting young band SignatureSA.

Uncle Cal, the Kung Fu Deejay with his trademark Afro, will be spinning some old school and current dance tunes in-between the sets and ensure that the night ends on a high note when he wrecks the decks.

SignatureSA are currently busy completing their first album.

The group’s five members are Joshua America (guitarist), Waylan van den Heever (bass guitarist), Lawren Jonas (drummer), Royston Samuels (keyboards and musical director) and Lincoln Jonas (saxophonist).

They all hail from Belhar and Elsies River on the Cape Flats and their motto is “You name it, we play it”. They are between the ages of 19 and 23.

Vuvu Khumalo is renowned for her live performances and this powerhouse songstress has built up a good following for her engaging renditions of well-known Motown classics.

To make things even more exciting for revellers, Camissa Solutions is sponsoring some nice prizes for the MosJazz International Music Festival which is happening at De Bakke Santos resort in Mossel Bay from January 17 to 20.

A plot for six people and weekend passes are among the prizes up for grabs.

The West End Jazz Festival happens on Sunday, December 30 from 7pm. Tickets cost R80 each at Computicket and all branches of Shoprite and Checkers. Tickets at the door on the evening cost R100.
