New Year’s Day baby tally: 164
THE tally for the number of babies born in the province on New Year’s Day has grown to 164.
Comprising 87 boys and 77 girls, the first baby was born just after midnight in the Mitchells Plain Hospital.
Two sets of twins also arrived on New Year’s Day, born to Marodene Loverlot at 7.48am and 8am.
The first born weighed 2.39kg and was 46cm in length.
Her sister weighed 2.2kg and measured 49cm in length.
At the Mowbray Maternity Hospital a set of twin boys was born to Limence Matsika.
The first was born at 12.31pm, weighed 2kg and measured 46cm in length.
His brother came along at 1.02pm, weighed 1.86kg and measured 39cm in length.
Provincial Health MEC Nomafrench Mbombo said: “Congratulations to all the parents who were blessed with bundles of joy on New Year’s Day.
“I wish them the very best in raising these little ones. They are in their most vulnerable stage, the first 1000 days. They need love, care and nutrition during this period.”
At least 49 babies were born in North West on New Year’s Day, and 36 in KwaZulu-Natal.
