Maimane announces DA’s proposed plans
IF THE DA was in charge, it would trim the number of cabinet ministries, increase child grants to R547 and table a Jobs Act in the first 100 days of taking over power.
Mmusi Maimane announced the party’s plans yesterday from the steps of the Union Buildings, where he was joined by the party’s Gauteng Premier candidate Solly Msimanga and the current provincial leader John Moodey.
He listed 10 things the party would immediately implement to demonstrate its commitment to serve the masses.
He said the upcoming elections were crucial because South Africans would be given a chance to vote for a government that would deliver a job in every home.
“We will increase the child grant. I know increasing child grants sounds populist, but we want to bring it up to R547. That’s an increase that makes sure it is a living grant.”
Maimane said the Cabinet was bloated and wasted money that could be better spent elsewhere.
“We would pass incentives for people to invest in this country and create work.”
Maimane said the party would table a Jobs Act, Fiscal Responsibility Bill, Independent System and Market Operator (ISMO) Bill, and immediately place SAA under business rescue. This included the rollout of a Voluntary Civil Service Year and the introduction of specialist Teacher Training Colleges and a National Education Inspectorate. |
