Toyota South Africa Motors scoops prestigious accolade
TOYOTA South Africa Motors (TSAM) was established in 1961 and boasts three strategically positioned offices together with its manufacturing plant in Prospecton, Kwa-Zulu Natal. Its sales and marketing operations are conducted in Sandton, Gauteng and its parts distribution warehouse is based in Atlas, Boksburg, Gauteng.
TSAM’s workforce is made up of more than 7 000 employees, comprising both blue and white-collar professions. Its parent company, Toyota Motor Corporation, includes a global network of affiliates in Asia, Europe, North America and South America.
TSAM’s values are rooted in the “Toyota Way”, with key pillars being Respect for People and Continuous Improvement. In relation to people practices, these translate into an emphasis on mutual trust between the company and its employees, continuous improvement in all spheres, commitment to people development and the promotion of teamwork to drive individual and company success. These underpin TSAM’s approach to people practices and fuel its efforts towards an ever-better work environment that enables its people to express their individual qualities and create shared value for all.
Participation in Top Employers certification
The Top Employers Institute recognises and celebrates organisations with the best human resources (HR) practices globally. The certification is based on audit findings and is benchmarked against other companies that also excel in people practices.
TSAM achieved above the South African benchmarks in a number of categories, including Diversity and Inclusion, Employee Engagement, Ethics and Integrity, Career Development, Leadership, Work Environment and Business Strategy on People Practices. This is testament to TSAM’s commitment to improving the lives of its employees, even under the challenging conditions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic and an unstable economic climate.
David Plink, the CEO of Top Employers Institute, said: “Despite the challenging period we have experienced (which has certainly made an impact on organisations around the globe), TSAM has continued to demonstrate the power of putting their people first in the workplace. We are proud to share this year’s announcement and congratulate the organisations that have been certified in their respective countries through the Top Employers Institute programme.”
TSAM provides opportunities for its workforce through development initiatives such as its Inter-Company Transfer programme, which offers employees opportunities to work abroad, for a fixed duration, within affiliates in Asia, Europe and North America.
TSAM’s in-house training centre (Employee School) offers an industry-certified curriculum for up-skilling and re-skilling employees through various apprenticeship programmes. In addition, TSAM’s multidisciplinary environment affords employees opportunities to diversify their skills through job rotations. Employees and trainees who join TSAM enjoy exposure to a broad range of disciplines including engineering, IT, finance, marketing and many others.
TSAM is proud of being a key role player in creating a better world of work for all.
