TWO newborn babies have been found dead within two days, with the latest body discovered in a field in Browns Farm, Philippi, on Wednesday.

The day before, a baby was found at a Langa dumping site.

Police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk said no arrests have been made in the latest incident.

“An inquest case was opened at Nyanga SAPS after a foetus was discovered (Wednesday) morning by a passer-by, who immediately informed the police in Nkelekethe Road in Browns Farm,” said Van Wyk.

Police are also investigating a case of concealment of birth in the Langa case.

“Police responded to a complaint on Tuesday, at about 11.20am in Moffati Street. Upon arrival at the scene they found the body of a newborn baby girl on a dumping site. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. The whereabouts of the mother are unknown,” said police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi.

Philippi community activist Nokuthula Ngqela said they were busy establishing a new support organisation for issues affecting women and children in the community.

“Every baby deserves nothing but life. If it happens that a young girl is being impregnated… in seeking advice you get a solution.

“It is very shocking that a baby just born was wrapped in plastic and discovered by a dog in a dumping area. We just formed a support group which deals with challenges faced by women and children but we have not formally launched the group. It is something that we are looking to launch next year so that we can educate people about issues affecting us,“said Ngqela.
