MUMS READ CAR, TOO

- H MOHAMED Durban

I’m busy reading the September issue of CAR, which prompted me to send this email. Surprise, surprise; this mom of three has time to flip through an issue of CAR. My husband has been a subscriber for a few years now, but I only started reading it around June this year. It’s refreshing and informative.

I found the insert on seat covers especially entertaining. I remember those fluffy sheepskin seat covers from when I was little. My grandfather had them in his old Mercedes-benz, which he drove for many years until it disintegrated. It got to a stage that, whenever he gave us a lift, we would hide below the dashboard because the Benz sounded like a tractor. It could be heard from two blocks away ... but those were the good old days.

These days, I’ve driven Audi after Audi, because my hubby is an Audi man. When we changed cars last year, he gave me a choice of new Audis (not that I know much about cars). Anyway, I took a liking to the A5 and we bought an Audi A5 TDI with sports package. I’m loving it. Our fuel bill has dropped drastically. After driving three Audi A4 2,0T FSIS for a few years, the change was refreshing. All the extras in this A5 make it a pleasure to drive. The main attraction of this car is that it’s lighter on fuel in town because I’m stopping and starting all day. I also feel safe behind the wheel because I’m out and about all day doing the school run for my kids. Basically, this sporty car is a mom’s taxi on weekdays and dad’s toy on weekends.

That’s my two cents’ worth. Duty calls, I’ve got three kids waiting to be dropped off somewhere...
