THE TOTAL PACKAGE

-

The C-HR is the second Toyota production model to use a new Toyota New Global Architecture-based pl at form(TN GA ), which has the exibility to be used for multiple types of vehicles, from hatchbacks to SUVS and, you guessed it, C-segment crossovers like the C-HR.

According to chief engineer Hiroyuki Koba, his goals for the C-HR were “not to compromise on design or driving performance, contribute to a fun-to-drive quality, o er individual styling and fundamental safety”. This could not have been achieved without the TNGA, which was speci cally adapted for the C-HR (where it is referred to as the GA-C platform).

The adaptions to the TNGA for the C-HR focused on weight, packaging and design. The GA-C platform allows for a low centre of gravity to be achieved despite a raised driver seating position. For example, the arrangement of the engine compartment allows for the relocation and lower placement of many engine components. The C-HR further bene ts from a short wheelbase and wide tracks, which greatly bene t vehicle dynamics.

The GA-C platform combines with the C-HR’S rigid body to provide consistent and linear responses to driver inputs. Thus, the vehicle can o er better driving qualities without sti suspension.

The clever layout of the engine bay has also allowed the designers to draw a lower hood line for the vehicle, which complements the coupé-like body of the C-HR.

But, the C-HR is not only about striking looks. Superior safety performance is inherent, with priority given to achieving the highest standards of active and passive safety. It targets the exacting standards set by the world’s leading independent crash-test programmes, supported by the advanced performance of the functions and systems of Toyota Safety Sense.
