1 078 KM EV RANGE

-

Range anxiety is becoming less of a concern and Tesla is at the forefront of easing stress. Recently, the Tesla Owners Club of Italy set a new world record of 1 078 km for the longest distance driven on a single charge with a production electric vehicle. The Model S P100D employs a large battery pack (100 kwh compared with, for example, the 24 kwh pack of the Nissan Leaf) and the driving team used 98 kwh over the distance at an average speed of 40 km/h. In South African terms (at R1,50 per kwh), the running cost of the trip was just R147. Interestingly, Tesla claims the P100D posts a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of a mere 2,5 seconds. How is that for a balance between ef ciency and performance?
