Welcome to the rst issue of CAR produced entirely remotely. It’s been a fascinating (and occasionally maddening) process mastering new-fangled chat programmes to stay in touch with the CAR team scattered across the Cape Peninsula, or how best to circulate test cars and have them performance tested and photographed. I’m deeply proud of what we’ve achieved with one of our most diverse issues to date. We test anything from a derivative of South Africa’s cheapest new-car range (page 66) to a fantastic supercar (which also happens to set a new 0-100 km/h sprint record; page 60), with a varied selection of classic cars in the mix.

In a sad era where many publishing houses are shuttering their doors and discontinuing beloved magazine titles, CAR and its publishers remain committed to entertaining and informing. Yet, even a 63-year-old title such as ours with a large support base has felt the effects of COVID-19. The May/june issue was unavailable in stores for several weeks and many readers had to wait an agonisingly long time for hand and post of ce deliveries to resume. Some of you were upset and that’s completely understandable. Rest assured we’ll right the wrongs and get your magazines to you. As I mentioned in my editor’s letter last month, to compensate subscribers for May and June combined into one, your subscription will automatically be extended by an issue. If you encounter any problems, email us at car@ramsaymedia.co.za.

We appreciate your support and it’s our hope you’ll continue to buy CAR. Allow me a moment to persuade you why you should: at R44,90, the magazine you hold in your hands is one of South Africa’s most affordable monthly titles. At 137 pure editorial pages – which, I should add, has remained consistent over the years – CAR offers you a wealth of quality content to last the entire month before the next issue is released. In the meantime, you can visit Carmag.co.za for up-to-date news, reviews and videos.

Right, sales pitch over. Go on, turn the page for another month of happy reading!
