BMW’S flagship electric SAV – the ix – lays the foundation for a new kind of driving experience

1. FIFTHGENERATION E DRIVE

Two electric motors and highvoltage, 100 kwh battery produces 370 kw. BMW claims a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 5,0 seconds. The Bavarian automaker says the ix is capable of travelling up to 600 km on a full charge.

2. DIGITAL GRILLE

Flanking the slim LED headlamps, the ix’s prominent vertical kidney grille acts as a multifunction intelligence panel. Housing an array of camera and radar technologies for the advanced driver-assistance system, BMW says it paves the way for autonomous driving.

3. PURPOSEFUL PROPORTIONS

The ix’s dimensions are comparable to that of the X5 in length and width (4 922 mm and 2 004 mm respectively), while the sloping roofline nearly matches the height of the X6.

4. AERO OPTIMISED

An aerodynamically optimised underbody section and rear end, including these Air Performance wheels which help reduce drag. The ix has a drag coefficient of 0,25.

1. NEWGENERATION MINIMALISM

Spanning a large section of the facia, a curved, single-piece frameless glass panel comprises a set of two screens – a 12,3-inch display relaying information to the driver and a 14,9-inch item for infotainment – featuring BMW’S latest operating system.

2. REINVENTING THE WHEEL

A first for a series-production BMW, the ix is equipped with a hexagonal multifunction steering wheel. The firm maintains this shape affords the driver a better view of the instruments.

3. CAN TOUCH THIS

The open-pore wood-finished centre console features touchsensitive, illuminated surfaces which, together with the crystal roundel, can be used to operate the infotainment display. Note the redesigned gear selector to the left.

4. AMPHITHEATRE AMBIENCE

Adding theatre to the interior, the (optional) Bowers & Wilkins active sound system comprises a total of 30 speakers, eight of which are embedded into the front and rear seats. Integrated in the former are magnetically controlled “shakers” for a 4D experience. Enhancing the ambience is a panoramic sunroof with electrochromic shading.
