Condé Nast House & Garden

FROM THE TEAM

-

The only constant in life is change. Doesn’t it always feel that as we enter the final quarter of the year the old adage seems truer than ever? After all, September might mark the official start to spring but everyone knows that the days only start growing longer – and warmer – around mid-october.

You need only peek outside to see that nature has thawed in a profusion of budding blooms and optimistic green foliage. That’s why this month we are celebrating gardens, from our handy guide to growing showstopper roses and the outdoor spots to visit, to a peek into the ingenious garden of respected landscape architect (and member of the Friends of the Arderne Gardens) Hank Lith, an enchanting multiroom space with an almost tangible air of romance to it (Cool, Calm & Collected, page 60).

The spirit of change is also a moment for excitement, especially when it comes to updating, upgrading and upping the ante on an interior. From the parade of colour and pattern in decorator Dominic Touwen’s Cape Dutch homestead (Worth the Wait, page 70) to the complete overhaul of a Johannesburg bachelor pad into a chic family home (Fine & Dandy, page 88), every space in this issue reflects a renewed vitality.

We also introduce you to a team of change agents in Leading Lights (page

28). Pioneers, game-changers and thought leaders, meet the powerful women who are taking charge and making a difference in their industries.

Here at Condé Nast House & Garden we’re embracing the thrill of change, too. It is with much pride that we welcome back Liz Morris as editor in Chief. If one thing is for certain, these are only the first steps in a new frontier – and we can’t wait to share it with all of you.
