Further arrests see ‘hit squad’ case postponed
AS THE list of charges against Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir continues to grow, the state has been accused of using delaying tactics by requesting another postponement.
Krejcir, together with his eight co-accused, appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
The alleged “hit squad” is facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, theft, the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, as well as the murder of Phumlani Ncube.
The charges also relate to the failed assassination attempts of senior police officer Colonel Nkosana “Killer” Ximba, and private investigator Paul O’Sullivan, who were involved in the investigation.
Also appearing were Siboniso Miya, Jacob Nare, Owen Serero, Zodumiso Biyela, Nandi Nkosi, a crime intelligence officer accused of supplying information to the alleged hit squad, and Khanyisa Mafunda.
The police recently arrested Siphiwe Memela and Bulgarian Luyubomir Borislavov Grigorov, in connection with the crimes.
Grigorov, Krejcir’s alleged “right-hand man”, was arrested earlier this week when he reported at the Benoni police station on the East Rand in compliance with his bail conditions relating to another case.
In light of the recent arrests the state said it needed more time to confirm the charges.
The case was postponed to July 4.
