Angavu look to upset Buffalo for league title

Promotion at stake for top team

- By ROSS ROCHE

THE South African Football Association (Safa) Eastern Cape Second Division comes to a head today as Angavu Stars meet F C Buffalo in a massive clash that could decide the fate of the title.

The match at the Dumpy Adams Sports Grounds in Queenstown is set to be a blockbuster as two of the season’s form teams go all out for a potential shot at promotion to the Safa first division.

“The team is in form and the players and technical team trust each other. We believe we can do all we can to try and win the title from here,” said F C Buffalo coach Eddie Dyaloyi.

F C Buffalo currently sit second on the log on 61 points, level with the table topping Highbury FC team, who are ahead on goal difference.

Angavu sit a point behind in third after their last match against O R Tambo was called off in the second half with Angavu leading 1-0.

Highbury and F C Buffalo are currently mirrored on the log having played 28 games, won 19, drawn four and lost five, while Angavu currently sit on 27 games played, 18 wins, six draws and three losses.

F C Buffalo have enjoyed a top second half of the season as they have claimed nine wins, offset by two draws and two losses since the half way stage. They are unbeaten in their last seven matches, which includes a five-match unbeaten run.

It has seen the team hit top form at just the right time and means that with two matches to play they are in with a chance of taking the title.

Angavu, who’s goal difference is vastly superior, will know a victory will end F C Buffalo’s title challenge and put them in the driving seat, while a draw will be beneficial to neither side except hand the initiative to Highbury.

In an up and down season among the top three Angavu drew with Highbury 1-1 and lost to them 1-0, while F C Buffalo enjoyed a 3-2 away win and 3-1 home victory over the table topping side.

In Angavu and F C Buffalo’s only match Angavu emerged victorious, winning 2-0 in East London and F C Buffalo will be going all out to avenge this defeat and claim a win that should remove Angavu from the title race, although they will still mathematically be in with a shot.

“Angavu have a good team that has been doing well,” said Dyaloyi.

“We are more experienced than them and the players are confident going into the game.”

The match kicks off at 3pm today.

The final matches of the season will be fought out on Monday at 3pm with Angavu playing away at Morning Stars, Highbury away at Cloud 9 and F C Buffalo hosting third-frombottom Jeffrey’s Bay Milan at the Jan Smuts Stadium.
