Help homegirl Caley back to her ‘happy place’
MTHATHA-born entrepreneur Caley van der Kolk has one last chance to make it onto SABC’s Presenter Search – and you can help her.
Van der Kolk, raised in East London, made it to the top 11 but was the first to be voted off a few weeks ago.
“I was devastated. I felt it was not my time to go,” she said.
The bubbly 25-year-old made waves as she was the only one in the top 11 who was not a model, MC, actor or radio personality.
“My journey was amazing, just too short.
“I was just beginning to find my happy place behind the big old lens. I was learning how to channel nervous energy into wondrous creative outputs and I was beginning to love it.” Now there’s a lifeline. She will receive one last chance to make the cut, when one of four ousted contestants is voted back into the competition by the public during a 24-hour voting period from the end of tonight’s show.
Van der Kolk is excited at the chance to make it back onto the show and knows she brings something new and fresh that can take her all the way.
“Top Billing has seen too many Miss SAs grace its screens. That is old news. TV needs fresh talent.
“Out with the Miss SAs, in with the Xhosa-speaking gal from the Eastern Cape.
“I think it has a ring, don’t you?”
Tonight’s episode will see the finalists give a children’s care centre a makeover, following which, a fourth hopeful will be eliminated from the Presenter Search .
The eliminated finalist will then join Van der Kolk, Miss Universe SA Ziphozakhe Zokufa and Mishka Patel, who are the other two voted off so far, for a chance to be voted back in by the public.
“Since the moment I stood in the cue of thousands of people at the first audition, I believed I could do it. It’s about visualisation. I’ve seen, in my mind of course, Bassie announcing me as the next Top Billing producer.”
