League fixtures put on ice

- By MAWANDE MVUMVU

THE Border Rugby Super League will this weekend take a back seat as the union has concluded to postpone games to accommodate the Bulldogs Vodacom Cup encounter against Boland in Alice today.

The delay now means rugby fanatics will have to wait a little longer for what was expected to be an epic clash of the titans between WSU All Blacks and East London Police which was scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

The game will now be played at the end of the league campaign when all teams will be playing for maximum points.

The postponement would not have come at a better time for Police who are still licking their wounds following their humiliating 24-3 loss to old Boy’s last weekend.

Police were undefeated since their dominant Super 12 run and had outplayed Old Collegians and Fort Hare in their opening two league games until hitting a brick wall against Old Boy’s.

This will help them buy time to fix the mistakes that cost them the game against a determined Old Boy’s side.

WSU All Blacks, on the other hand, are on a high having managed a convincing 16-3 victory away from home against Breakers last weekend in Queenstown.

As things stand in the Super League, the duo are neck and neck on nine points with Buffs, Old Boy’s and Berlin Tigers but WSU All Blacks and Old Selbornians have played one game less than the other three who have played three matches.

Police are second on the log while WSU All Blacks are one spot below.

WSU All Blacks assistant coach Akhona Mgijima said the break would be a much needed rest for his side.
