Ex ‘Idols’ star Ayanda to host weddings show
AYANDA Mpama has been unveiled as the new host of Our Perfect Wedding. The popular Mzansi Magic show has become essential Sunday night television viewing and a social media phenomenon.
Tumi Morake surprised viewers when she announced her exit from the show this week.
The broadcaster was quick to dispel any suspicion that Morake was fired from the job.
Spokeswoman Bongiwe Potelwa explained that the presenters changed with every new season and that Morake had served her season of 13 episodes.
Radio and TV personality Mpama starts season five of the wedding show this coming Sunday, at 7pm.
Mpama got noticed as the lovable and giggly Idols SA top 6 finalist in 2005.
In 2008 she presented Soul Sundays, a music chat show on SABC1. She recently hosted the talk show Talk SA on SABC2.
An upbeat Mpama yesterday said she was ready for Our Perfect Wedding.
“I think joining the show is a good challenge that I am ready for. I am replacing someone who did a great job on the show,” she said.
“As Aya, I’m bringing my own personality and I’m very aware that viewers will be comparing me with Tumi.” She began shooting seven weeks ago. “I love the show because I am a sucker for love. I like that I will get to hear different stories of love. I am looking forward to the show.
“Whether there is drama in their lives or not, nothing will stop people who love each from being together,” she said.
Morake, a stand up comedian, actress and mother of three said now that she is no longer presenting the show, she would go back to her projects.
Previous hosts of the show are Thuli Thabethe, Brenda Ngxoli and Phumeza Mdabe.
