Sikhakhane finally breaks his silence

- By VUYOKAZI NKANJENI

ROGER Sikhakhane has reassured fans and critics his return to coach Chippa United was not out of desperation.

While there has been large support for Sikhakhane’s return, others have turned to social media to question or mock the 39-year-old’s decision to come back to Port Elizabeth.

Some have also asked why he would again allow himself to be abused by club management.

Sikhakhane disagrees and bases him choosing to return to Chippa on the positive support he received from fans during his stay in the Bay.

“Me coming back to the club, I don’t think it’s a matter of desperation but we must look at things both ways because people are divided.

“I know that it was a very sensitive issue when I left the club, people all over the country were cross and wished bad things for the club.

“When I look back on how much support I received from the people of PE I said: ‘No, let me go back’. I think those people need me more than those individuals who said I should not go back to Chippa.

“At the end of the day I am the one who takes the decision,” Sikhakhane said.

The former Thanda Royal Zulu coach has replaced Ernst Middendorp and has signed a oneseason deal with the Chilli Boys.

Last week when Chippa management announced Sikhakhane’s re-appointment on the the club’s Facebook page supporters had different views.

Viwe Damna said: “Roger is hungry and a man has to eat ... we cannot blame him.”

Anele Mono Noqoko said: “He’s not a coach for the whole season, he is just there for a few games.”

“Sikhakhane you keep coming on board as the club’s lifesaver . . . when things go sore they fire you,” Thanda Dlomo Buntu said.

“He will be fired soon, poor Roger this is what scarcity of jobs does,” Palesa Bubu Zama-Zengele added.

Meanwhile others welcomed Chippa’s decision but also made their frustrations known.

“Mpengesi, maybe it’s time you acknowledge the love this man has for the club because you always let him down but he keeps coming back. It’s like he eats, drinks, sleeps and dreams Chippa United.

“If Roger had coached the team for the whole season we could have ended the season in the top eight.

“Should haves and would haves don’t matter now. Hopefully the lesson is learnt,” said Kaiser Zangashe SJadu.

“Don’t chase him away Khanyiso Kanye Hliso said.

The Chilli Boys are currently in Cape Town for a pre-season training camp and will return to the Bay before their opening league match against Chiefs at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in August.

Their first warm-up match will be against National First Division side Cape Town All Stars tomorrow. The Chilli Boys’ also hope to have a scrimmage against Ajax Cape Town or Bidvest Wits, who will be in Stellenbosch, on Wednesday next week.
