Let your feet do the strolling at 5th annual garden show this weekend
TREE huggers and flower children are in for a treat this weekend when some of East London’s most beautiful gardens go on display.
The Pam Golding Properties 5th Annual Garden Show takes place this Saturday and Sunday.
The event was launched in 2011 by the company’s East London area principal Hanlie Bassingthwaighte to benefit local charities through donations from members of the public who visit and view the city’s most beautiful gardens. It has grown every year and has raised R360 000 in four years.
A total of 22 charities are set to benefit from this year’s proceeds.
Bassingthwaighte said last year the garden show raised R162 000.
She said the event had exceeded all expectations since its launch.
“It not only recognises beautiful gardens in our town, it also focuses attention on the potential that every garden has to add value to a property .”
Local charities to benefit include the Carel du Toit Centre, SPCA, East London Woman Prisoners, Compassionate Friends, Greensleeves Place of Safety for Children, Masithethe Lifeline, the Sophumelela Centre, FACE Donkey Project, African Angels, Salem Baby Centre, Uthixo Ulungile Ministry, Alzheimers, Cansa, Berea Gardens Service Centre, Felzoo, Passion for People, EL Petpals, Child Welfare, Mclelland Adult Centre, Breath of Life, Child Welfare and Hilltop Animal Outreach.
All charities are given a number of tickets to sell at R50 each, which they can sell in advance or on the weekend of the event. From these sales, they get 100% of the money.
Bassingthwaighte said Greensleeves Place of Safety would also have pony rides and a jumping castle at their host garden, and the Salem centre would be selling home-made jewellery. There will be tea offered in many of the gardens.
