Stylish Peugeot 208 hatchback arrives in SA

-

PEUGEOT South Africa has launched an updated version of its popular 208 subcompact hatchback.

This latest line-up consists of three models, offering a choice of three Euro6-compliant engines, two transmissions and two trim levels.

“The 208 has been a stalwart performer in the Peugeot stable, both here and abroad,” said Francis Harnie, managing director of Peugeot Citroën South Africa.

“However, with demand for more compact, but also more sophisticated cars continuing to grow, it was time to update the current model.”

Harnie said the changes and improvements amounted to much more than just a facelift.

“The advanced automatic gearbox offered in the new GT Line model sets new benchmarks for efficiency and shift speed.”

A budget-beating special Pop Art model has been added to the range and benefits from the recent updates to the entire 208 range.

These include a wider, more powerful grille now smoothly integrated with the new, colour-coded front bumper for a sleeker, more sophisticated look.

Revised headlights incorporating daytime running lights are standard, while the rear tail light clusters employ LED technology to highlight the 208’s characteristic, deep-red “claw” design.

At the heart of the Pop Art’s zippy character is a 1.0-litre threecylinder engine which sips just 4.4 litres of fuel for every 100 km travelled in the combined cycle. With a fuel tank of 50 litres, that suggests an operating range of more than 1 000 km between refuels, depending on driving style and conditions.

Like the rest of the 208 range, the Pop Art’s cabin has benefited from a substantial upgrade of finishes and materials, adding smart appeal and a sense of tactile quality to the 208’s trend-setting i-Cockpit configuration.

The i-Cockpit layout ensures a highly intuitive interface between car and driver, with the key instrument dials in the driver’s field of vision, and all major controls within easy reach. — DDR Pricing The newly updated Peugeot 208 range is priced as follows:
