Boshoff takes top spot

- BY ALAN WEIMAN

WITH the publication of the East London Combine pigeon racing results for the most recent event from Willowmore (400 kms) one could surely excuse the Beach Boys loft (aka, Ian Ross-Thompson and Martin Hobbs of Abbotsford) for echoing the words of their famous namesakes’ song ‘Wouldn’t it be nice’.

They took the winning position in both the Any-age and the Yearling races.

All that was needed to make it a case of ‘Good Vibrations’ would be for their accomplishment of a double win in the Combine to carry through to the Border Homing Union result sheet as well.

Sadly, they missed out as Bossie Boshoff’s first pigeon in the Any-age race and flying home to King William’s Town, opened up a substantial margin to take top spot with an average flying speed of 85,8 km/hr.

The Beach Boys had to settle for second and third places at 84,7 km/hr. Boshoff ‘s loft clocked an additional top10 arrival.

The Yearling event went to the Beach Boys at 88,24 km/hr with Squeaky Nel and Greg Schwagele (both Northerns) picking up second and third.

The top-10 positions here were shared by Northerns’ and Abbotsford.
